Scope Ratings confirms Luxembourg’s AAA rating

On 10 April 2026, the rating agency Scope Ratings reaffirmed Luxembourg’s AAA sovereign credit rating with a stable outlook, once again placing the Grand Duchy among the highest-rated jurisdictions globally.

For businesses, investors, lenders and regulated institutions, this confirmation is more than a symbolic endorsement. It reinforces Luxembourg’s position as a safe, predictable and financially robust legal and economic environment, particularly relevant in the context of cross-border transactions, fund structuring, financing operations and long-term investment planning.

According to Scope Ratings, the rating continues to be supported by Luxembourg’s highly competitive, high-value-added economy, driven by strong productivity levels and resilient sectors such as financial services and startup technologies.

From a legal and transactional perspective, the reaffirmation is particularly relevant in matters involving:

  • regulated financial services and fund structures;
  • banking and secured lending transactions;
  • M&A and private equity investments;
  • public-private and infrastructure financing;
  • long-term contractual risk allocation.

Scope Ratings also highlighted the continued strength of Luxembourg’s public finances, notwithstanding increasing expenditure pressures linked to defence efforts, public investment and potential inflation-driven social spending adjustments.

This renewed AAA confirmation is likely to further support Luxembourg’s attractiveness as a jurisdiction of choice for international sponsors, financial institutions and multinational groups seeking legal certainty and macroeconomic stability.

For market participants, the announcement serves as a strong reminder that Luxembourg continues to offer a high-grade sovereign backdrop that materially supports transaction confidence, financing conditions and investment security.
